It seems that Resident Evil fans have a long wait ahead of them for Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Two financial statements released by Capcom show that the next iteration in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 5, has received a significant delay.

The earliest possible release for the highly anticipated game which was shown in teaser trailer form a few years ago will see a release of April 2008 at the very earliest.

The Resident Evil series is not dead until then though as the Nintendo DS will be receiving a Resident Evil game as well as the Wii, which will get Resident Evil 4 and a light-gun style game Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles which are both out later this year. Resident Evil 4 is due out in a few weeks and has already been released in japan on the Wii.

One thing Capcom is banking on is huge sales from Devil May Cry 4 as well as an upcoming Mega Man platformer.
