Konami has confirmed that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be released simultaneously on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Konami released Pro Evolution Soccer 6 last year as an exclusive to the Xbox 360 and met much critical acclaim and fanfare. Now though the exclusivity is gone and the best soccer game on the planet arguably is heading to the PS3 as well.

The name is something fans may be curious about. Konami has opted to drop the name Pro Evolutioin Soccer 7 and put year next to it instead as the game will now be called Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. The yearly iterations should have the year tag next to them now just as the FIFA and other sports games usually have.

One interesting notion is that Konami is not doing a Wii version leaving EA and the FIFA franchise to get virtually all soccer fan sales from Wii owners.

Konami is heading into one hell of a next-gen duel with EA and the FIFA franchise and it should be interesting with them being released simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Soccer fans should surely rejoice after this news!
