Reports coming out of the development process for Gran Turismo 5 state that Polyphony Digital are planning to have 1000 cars features in Gran Turismo 5, but there is a catch.

The catch to this announcement is the fact that even though 1000 cars are planned to come out down the pipeline for the game, Gran Turismo 5 is only going ot feature 340 of those which will be playable straight from the Blu-ray retail disc.

That means that the rest of the content is going to be made available, for a price, over the PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store.

Sony has stated in the past that Gran Turismo as a franchise in the future was going to have a hefty amount of micro-transaction items built in such as parts for cars, cars themselves, etc.

Rumors are that the game may release at a lower price point around $30 or $40 and then allow for a high-level of downloadable content which will more than make up for the lossed retail dollars.

Either way Gran Turismo 5 is likely to be extremely expensive if you want the total package.
