White Knight critically panned in first reviews

White Knight Chronicles has been thought of by many as a title that would turn the tides of the console war in Japan.  It was to be the first major, big budget Japanese RPG exclusive to the PS3.  However, if the first reviews of the title from the latest Famitsu hold any truth, it looks like the title may not have the impact many thought it would.

The title was scored a very sub-par 29/40.  For a reference, the latest JRPG to hit the Japanese market prior to White Knight, the Last Remnant, scored a 38/40, and Enchanted Arms, a JRPG generally considered to be the worst JRPG this generation, scored a 29/40.  Despite the lackluster score, Famitsu wasn't very critical of the title in the actual review, complaining only about the voice chate online.  They went on to praise White Knight's epic-scale battles, customizable combos/battle system, and amount of additional content.
