| Sony Has No Current Plans for PlayStation 4 Posted by Nikhil on December 19, 2008
Rumors of the PlayStation 4 began cropping up just a few months ago, when developer Crytek stated that Sony had planned preliminary specs and the launch year for its next console. However, a recent interview with David Reeves, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, would seem to contradict that statement: “I’m not even sure if that’s being considered. It’s certainly nothing I can talk about. I have absolutely no knowledge of it whatsoever. Not even sure it’s being planned. We’re still continuing to develop products that we put in our mid range plans six months ago, one year ago.” Considering that the PlayStation 2 was one of Sony’s largest money makers during its lifespan, it seems unlikely that they would abandon the PlayStation brand simply due to initially poor profits on the PS3. The most likely explanation for Reeve’s statement would be that Sony simply wants to keep focus on current hardware and not start speculation on future models. However, Reeves statement, noncommittal as it is, still leaves the possibility of no PS4. Let’s hope that it’s just PR talk. Stay tuned to PCN for the latest in PS3 news! |
