The sales of the Sony PS3 have doubled since Sony dropped the price of the 80GB PS3 and introduced the 40GB $399 model. Sony has also been taking advantage of the fact that Nintendo has continued to have a shortage of Wii consoles on store shelves. The CEO of Sony Corp. Howard Stringer stated that the price cuts of the PS3 as well as the new 40GB model have made the PS3 an extremely popular console compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii this holiday season. Sony is very happy about the fact that they have been selling 30,000 to 40,000 consoles per week since they dropped the 80GB model down to $499 and introduced the 40GB model at $399. These sales numbers have continued since October 18 and do not seem to be slowing down.
