Before the launch of the PlayStation 3 in , Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3, but only in that region.  This left gamers in North America and soon-to-be Europe with a high price tag of $599 for the full-featured PlayStation 3 console.

With market-share a major part of success in the video game market and with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 already selling for over a year, and very well at that, as well as the Nintendo Wii selling amazingly well, Sony may have to do something to try and maintain its market share.

Sony currently loses about $200 or more on each unit so a price cut to try and push more units may not be a bad idea as even though they will lose more money per console, they will expand their market and be able to make far more profit on things such as games, accessories, purchases over the PlayStation Store, etc.

We will have to wait and see what Sony does with this very interesting development.
